Colin Farrell Biography
"It's nice to get a pat on the back. You get pats and you get kicks in the ass through the years. The best way, I suppose, is to believe neither." - Colin Farrell -
However, it was Colin's sister Catherine who first drew him towards acting. She'd stay up late watching old movies, and her younger brother would sit with her, revelling in the efforts and attitudes of Brando, Newman, Clift and, interestingly, Ernest Borgnine. His first big crush was on Marilyn Monroe. At 8 or 9, totally besotted with the goddess, he'd leave some of his Smarties under his pillow along with a note inviting her to come down from Heaven to share them with him. CF: "I think I was 8 or 9 when I had a f*cking mad thing for Marilyn Monroe. I used to leave Smarties, the Irish equivalent of M&M's, under my pillow with a little note saying, 'I know you're dead, but these are very f*cking tasty, and you should come have a few. I won't tell anyone." Catherine also provided him with his first experience of stage performance when, at age 12, he watched her play Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream. When Eamon Jr took up dance lessons, young Colin was also forced by his mother to attend. During his teen years Colin was a pretty naughty lad, being caught shoplifting, smoking joints and, later, driving over the limit and spending a night in the slam for his pains. One of his school reports claimed he was "getting in too many fights". At 16, love hit him for the first time (disregarding the earlier Monroe infatuation), when he fell for Amelia, the young daughter of a Portuguese family in Castleknock. It would end tragically when Colin, a serial fighter and consummate gadabout, had over 20 boys at school after his blood, his parents moving him on to Gormanston boarding school. But this did not prove a solution to the problem. Colin did not react well to the school's stricter discipline. He and his mates were constantly in trouble for skipping classes, spending long lunches drinking at a local pool-hall. Back in the study hall, they'd put on their Walkmans and fall asleep. One day, when he was 17, Colin was grabbed by a supervisor and instead of submitting to the inevitable punishment, Colin threw him against the nearest wall and threatened him in his usual, spectacularly profane manner. Naturally, he was expelled. He remembers leaving the grounds feeling like a rock star.......Read Full Biography Relationships Amelia Warner: Married 17 July 2001 - Divorced November 2001 Kim Bordenave: Together in 2002 (1 son) Muireann McDonnell: Together 2006 - 2007 Emma Forrest: Together 2008 - 2009

Some of Colin's acting idols are Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and James Caan.
On the set of the movie 'Ask the Dust', Colin stripped naked and danced for co-star Salma Hayek, so she wouldn't feel as nervous being nude on screen. Claims say it was a ballet dance but Colin tells us otherwise.
CF: "The naked part is true, but it wasn't ballet; it was a different dance. - We were doing a scene where she had to be naked, so I thought, 'I want to be naked'."
In 2004 when Colin appeared on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', he agreed to pay $100 everytime he swore.
Despite rumours, Colin never had a romance with Angelina Jolie, but he says he loves her dearly.
Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan favoured Colin to replace him as the 007 spy, he said "I'll give it to Colin Farrell. He'll eat the head off them all," but Colin wasn't interested as he felt he couldn't follow in the footsteps of the likes of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Brosnan.
In 2005 Colin helped raise $20,000 at an auction to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina, by selling himself. Miami Vice co-star Jamie Foxx took bids for a date with Colin, but when women were too nervous to bid they decided to ask for group bids. One group of friends bid $10,000, but another women doubled the bid to get a date all of her own. Generous Colin helped boost the fund by donating $50,000.
Colin has never really been able to sleep at night, many claim he has insomnia.
CF: "I suppose if not sleeping well at night is insomnia, then I have it. Ever since I was a kid - I was the youngest of four kids - my dad used to say to me 'You're going to be a night watchman when you grow up'. So obviously something was a bit amiss."
Has said that when he is not working his favorite time of the day, is the night time hours. He likes the silence, peace, tranquility and the fact that almost everyone in his immediate environment is asleep.
CF: "It feels like free time, you know that the phone's not going to ring."
He says the best lesson his mum taught him was good manners.
Prefers a woman with a sense of humour, a bit of danger and who's good fun. He says 'a good heart is a really sexy thing'.
In his teens, Colin used to teach line dancing in his native Ireland.
When Colin was in Australia for a year, in a case of mistaken identity, he was arrested for murder.
One of his favourites books is 'When Nietzsche Wept' by Irvin D. Yalom.
Colin was one of the actors chosen to take over Heath Ledger's role in 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.' As Heath left all his money to his father at the time of his death, Colin along with Johnny Depp and Jude Law, wanted to make sure Heath's daughter Matilda wasn't being left out, so they all donated their paycheques from the film to her.
CF: "I will be honored to be part of that. It makes me feel uncomfortable to think about it too much and to get into it really here, but it's an incredibly painful honor... and an honor I wish wasn't bestowed (on me), but an honor none-the-less. It's about getting Heath's work out there... He's too good for any of his work not to be seen, you know, and I'm really keen and looking forward to doing it and just doing the best job I can do."
Bruce Willis lent Colin his jet so he could go to the Dublin Film Festival after the Filming of 'Hart's War'.
Says he is a very peaceful person, but can have a bad temper.
Admits to regularly taking a combination of drugs and alcohol from a young age and even spent some time in therapy at age 18. In December 2005 he checked into a treatment center and was released in January 2006, he credits his family with saving his life.
CF: "It was horrible in one way, because I went away because I was pretty sick. But in another way it was great, because it was a very safe environment with a bunch of people who were looking to sort out things in their life."
