Excellent comedy actor!!! My favorite movies with him are Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Young Frankenstein, The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother, See No Evil Hear no Evil and The Woman in Red. I only lack of the last mentioned in my collection of dvds :)

He is the one and only Willy Wonka! No one can compare. As for Johnny Depp....I love him as an actor, but Willy Wonka was not a role he was suited for. I'm sorry, but he just came across as gay and retarded in that role. And that purple suit he wore and the make-up for that movie.....come on people that was not right.... Johnny Depp is not suited for those type of roles. He really did good work in Benny and Joon, Edward Scissorhands, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and The Pirates of the Caribean movies. Those are the type of roles he's perfect for. Especially as Jack Sparrow!
Like I said no one could pull off Willy Wonka as wonderfully as Gene Wilder, though they could have found someone who could play the role better than Johnny Depp.
