Rambling mishmash about a pair of cavemen who go on a journey after being banished from their primitive village. Disorganized mess is a lazily written buddy film without cohesion. No plot, but more or less a series of tepid jokes united by biblical events. Frequently wallows i...( read more)

Year One is the latest movie starring Jack Black. It is basically the story of the world since the beginning of time through the eyes of two cavemen. It has some funny moments and I hate to say it because I'm a big Jack Black fan but in general the movie its just plain and simpl...( read more)

4 letters here ROFL. A comedy for today, with some true gag reflex needed to stop you laughing in that way everyone hates (you know that kind of laugh) . So if your sad, depressed, bored or unhappy, have a go at watching this to cheer you up

I gave this 2.5 stars for being more amusing than I thought it was going to be.
While not a total bomb it fell pretty flat with obvious jokes and some really lackluster performances. It seemed as if even the cast was pretty bored with the material they were being asked to deliv...( read more) -

It started well enough but came to a screeching halt or some sort of indescribable pause somewhere, really hard to fathom what was it. The early part was funny though.

Critic Reviews
Year One is nowhere near as funny as the ancient-civilization movies I saw in high school: Life of Brian, History of the World Part I, Caligula. Its script isn't worth the papyrus it's inscribed on. full review
This lame biblical/caveman jokefest fails to elict many laughs. full review
It ambles along uncertainly, hobbled by the lack of chemistry between its two lead actors, and by gags that either try too hard or suffer from being barely there. full review
Black and Cera posed in cave-man outfits for an amusing poster. Then the movie was brought forth and things went downhill. full review
Year One has one joke, but it's a good one, played for many variations over the course of an often very funny comedy. full review
The picture's desperate, teen-baiting assemblage of fart jokes, dick jokes, poop-nibbling and urine inhalation are a constant reminder that no matter how ancient the setting's supposed to be, the land... full review
Mostly Year One moves along ploddingly, stepping frequently into bathroom humor and never quite funny enough to justify its high concept; when it's over, it quickly slips away. full review
Year One is scattershot and silly, squandering its potential by relying on juvenile bawdy humor. full review
Year One is a dreary experience, and all the ending accomplishes is to bring it to a close. Even in the credit cookies, you don't sense the actors having much fun. full review
