He eventually doubles the mob's take and changes the rules of how the casinos are run. But he can't control the odds when it comes to Ginger McKenna, the chip-hustling vamp who charms Ace and becomes his wife. His infatuation with Ginger turns to obsession as she rises with him to the upper crust of society, then turns to the bottle and pills for consolation in her gilded cage. The third member of this triangle of greed and obsession is Nicky Santoro, Ace's best friend and fellow graduate of the city streets. Together, they run the perfect operation, with Ace in charge and Nicky providing the muscle. But as Nicky expands his interests and each man gains power, their lives become entangled in a story of hot tempers, obstinacy, money, love and deception.

De Niro, pesci and Scorsese. Not many collaborations of this kind work, they certainly don't work this well. It's not just them that are great in this film though, the supporting cast are all brilliant in this very stylish gangster thriller. Brilliant.

I guess I'm just not a fan of 70's and 80's gangster movies. They're all pretty much exactly the same, and they all use the exact same actors. The only good things in this movies are when they show day to day interesting things about how Sam ran the casino, and when Joe Pesci k...( read more)ills people. Otherwise, it was a whole lot of screaming the F word which gets old pretty fast.

A complex, multilayered, beautifully directed film, Martin Scorsese's Casino is a masterpiece of destruction and betrayal. Few films take so many chances and succeed so wonderfully. It takes some of the basic formulas that were found in Goodfellas and applies them to another type...( read more) of story - while Goodfellas' view was ground-level, telling the story of the "blue collar" gangsters of NYC, this film tells the story of the guys who controlled those guys. And it's fascinating to watch these people run Las Vegas, control the flow of money, and then fall from the heights of power due to lust, hubris, and greed. An amazing film that will hopefully get the recognition it deserves in the years to come.

"In the casino, the cardinal rule is to keep them playing and to keep them coming back. The longer they play, the more they lose, and in the end, we get it all."

Legendary director Martin Scorsese triumphantly teams up for a third time with tough-guys Robert DeNiro and

...( read more)Joe Pesci for yet another memorable mob hit (Goodfellas and Raging Bull being the other two). Casino is an in-depth, pseudo-documentary of how life is for a casino manager in the high stakes life of Las Vegas and the mob.

Nobody captures the mob lifestyle like Scorsese. He captures the ties between the mob and Vegas perfectly. His direction was perfect... The acting was fantastic all around, especially Joe Pesci. I love DeNiro, and he did a fine job, but Pesci really lived his role.

A completely underrated film... I'd rank it as one of Scorsese's best. It's just as good as Goodfellas in my opinion.

"Listen to me very carefully. There are three ways of doing things around here: the right way, the wrong way, and the way that *I* do it. You understand?"

Scorsese?s Casino reunites De Niro and Pesci once again in what is an Epic length Drama based on actual events.

The Las Vegas casino, managed by higher levels of organised crime, shows the harsh realitites behind the scenes of the huge money making business, dealing with the c...( read more)orrupt and the powerful, casino is also a one-sided love story.

I often hear criticism about this film and I?m not entirely sure why, at almost 3 hours long, it?s quite some watch, but I don?t find it boring in anyway, maybe it?s critism is as a Scorsese piece, following Goodfellas. I do think this is Sharon Stone's best performance to date though.

Sharon stone is so so amateur she thinks she can get by on her looks (which she hasnt had in 10 years) so now shes useless... good thing DeNiro and Pesci never fail
  • November 22, 2009
While it was not the best decision to release this so close in time to Goodfellas, it is still a great piece of film making from Scoresese and shouldn't be overlooked. It has a great cast and characters to match them. The story was very complex, but it was fleshed out in a great ...( read more)way.

'mafia' version of raging bull, didn't really work on me, this is my least favorite scorsese's movie..
  • November 19, 2009
Pesci and De Niro come back swinging in this story of love friendship, greed, and betrayal, backed by, and about, Las Vegas, at a time when crime was rewarded, robbing was encouraged, and violence was accepted. It gives 2 sides of the story that are both compelling, and how they ...( read more)start to repel when these 2 friends both get caught up in their own version of Las Vegas...Also Sharan Stone is spellbinding as the gold digging, high priced, hooker wife. Based on true events this epic tale takes you on a spiraling adventure, sometimes humorous and always at the edge of your seat, with detailed narrating that never holds back in its graphic detail of violence, and its step by step explaining of how the mob operated during that time. Sam Rothstien all the while is conflicted with the life he left, which comes back to haunt and the life he so desperately wants, and not being able to help being blind sided.

I think I like this better than Good Fellas
