An Intense thriller; both entertaining and unpredictable, that unfortunately leaves a bad taste in the mouth with a very weak and uninspired conclusion. Overlook this flaw, and you'll (more than likely) be pleasantly surprised by this niffty little thrill-ride.

Also, Gerard Bu...( read more)tler is at his most badass here, clearly having a blast with the role at hand.

Thought this was a somewhat interesting movie but Jamie Foxx over acts as always as a crook of a lawyer making deals w/ murderers. Gerard Butler is calm & cool no matter what. I do however have a bone to pick? the ?revenge part? where he explains what he?s going to do & I do...( read more)n?t mean the overall lan?they don?t show the fun stuff only the after math gore (& its not much/enough I?d prefer to see! Lol.. yeah I?m sick I know I live my vengefulness through movies!! But at least it?s a safe anger management fantasy therapy type thing!!) The whole still doing these things from jail is cool, I did get into it, but I?d say maybe average

As a budding film critic its quite difficult to review a movie like "Law Abiding Citizen", on one hand its one of the funniest films of the year which in that case I'd give it a 4 star review but the problem is that I'm fairly sure that it was suppose to be a highly dramatic, int...( read more)ense action drama and a statement on the shambles on the American justice system. In that case you have your 1.5 stars right here. Which is a shame considering the talent that no one ever considered the logic behind any of this.
Take for example at the beginning from Gerard Butler's family is killed, I mean I get it he's angry that his family has been killed and wants justice. Problem is that both the script and Butler's performance is so one-sided that it takes everything to a one giant level of stupidity. The change from family man to blood thirsty mass murderer is so drastic and considering there is not a single moment of doubt or moral conflict that it left me with two questions.
    1. Are we suppose to root for him?
    2. If the mobs dudes didn't take the little girl out, would this guy have done it once, she hits the teen years?
Its this type of lazy writing and zany over the top "Saw-esque" killing scenes that make "Law Abiding Citizen" difficult to understand what its trying to do.
Sadly despite these flaws at least Butler is interesting and looks like he's at least having fun blowing sh*t up. Everyone else, particularly Jamie Foxx and Viola Davis just look as though they are totally going to switch to Philip Seymour Hoffman's agent once shooting is done. Hell I don't think I've ever seen extras look this embarrassed to be in a film.
Though credit should go to F. Gary Gary for making a well shot piece of junk and its a film I'd go see for in no other reason there is a lot to laugh at in "Law Abiding Citizen" Just don't expect anything like logic, a brain or a point.

An unforgettably powerful and adreniline-fuelled edge of your seat thriller. A bone-chilling revenge classic. An unbeliveably exhilerating, mind-blowing and shocking film that shakes you to the core like you wouldnt belive. It packs plenty of twist, turns and explosive excitement...( read more) around every corner all the way to it's amasing conclusion. A fearless and very intelligent cat and mouse thriller thats solidly character driven, taunt, riveting and loaded with pulse-pounding suspense and explosive action. It takes the revenge film to new heights and shows us something new, dark and tremendously exhilerating movie that you wont forget. A smart, compelling, nail-biting and heart-pounding thrill-machine. Director, F. Gary Grey crafts a superb and thrilling masterwork that takes his style to new places. Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler have never been better. Foxx is excellent in every scene he's in. Butler is incrediable, he gives a memorable, tortured, brilliant and electrifying performance. Butler and Foxx are a tour de force. Top-notch acting, clever writing and well-constructed by its filmmaker. An amasing, shattering, razor-sharp and breathtaking film thats an assualt on the senses. It's nerve-frying, grippingly tense and flat-out brilliant.

This isn't quite as simple as it may seem. Gerard Butler's character is NOT an everyday guy. He has a unique set of abilities to seek what he sees as justice. It makes for a gripping thriller with plenty of twists and action. Jamie Foxx is unremarkable as the D.A., but the rest o...( read more)f the cast are excellent. It would appear that screenwriter Kurt Wimmer should stay away from science fiction dross like Ultraviolet & Equilibrium and stick to thrillers like this one; it suits him much better.
