This one doesn't build on the characters and laughs of the first two. Timberlake as a teen King Arthur and Idle as Merlin are a big let down! Well the actors do an ok job. It is more the characters, especially Merlin, who are sadly underdeveloped.

Watching this movie, it's almost too hard to believe that it's in the same series as the first two. It's aimed almost entirely at adults and children will watch it only because of what the first two were. At the rate they're going with Shrek, the fifth one will be found behind th...( read more)

From all the criticism received for this sequel, I was expecting a pretty bad film, but in fact I really enjoyed the direction the story went in. Some very funny moments and of course, as always, great animation and characterization, including some new arrivals.

the third part is good but not as great as the prequels; they drag on the story a bit but still there's a few laughs and i like the ogre babies and the twists they did on the princesses (Rapunzel is the evil one .. hmm..)
i read somewhere that they are planning on doing 6 more...( read more)
Critic Reviews
Apart from some modestly amusing princess shtick and a pleasantly slapsticky opening, there's no real reason for anyone over the age of 11 to see this one.
Computer-generated animated movies with wall-to-wall jokes can be excruciating, but these jokes are the funniest money can buy. full review
Green isn't just the color of ogres. It also represents the cold hard cash studio execs can again expect to reap, no matter how often they repeat the same basic joke. full review
Feels sluggish and tired; its relentless, not-so-great gags hit with the soft thud of stone-hard bread crumbs. full review
The world of the fanciful fable looks particularly vibrant this time with its signature blend of realism and fantasy. It is a pleasure to watch these fairy tale folk be themselves -- yet again. full review
The movie's tidy running time is crammed with so many yuks that I'd have to watch two or three times to catch them all. And I wouldn't mind. full review
Shrek the Third seems at once more energetic and more relaxed [than its predecessors], less desperate to prove its cleverness and therefore to some extent smarter.
A deflated, weakly plotted effort that only intermittently recaptures the jubilant humor of the earlier films. full review
There's no disguising the fact that Shrek the Third has come down with a bad case of sequelitis. You know the symptoms: Lots of razzle-dazzle to distract from the hole at the center of the story. You ... full review
