This is to fans of "D&D" and other tales of myth & magic like "Star Wars" is to fans of sci-fi and outer space adventures.

I was never really into this kind of thing as a youngster but I thought it was quite good. I might watch the other ones one day!

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like LOTR?? could be. This first film was ok, the look is good but just not dark or scary enough. The cast is good, especially he Hobbits, and they work very well with their characters. The effects for me are just too cgi and plastic ...( read more)looking. Expected a more darker approach.

"Nine companions. So be it. You shall be the fellowship of the ring.
    - Great! Where are we going?"

"The Fellowship of the Ring"... Where to start? Back in 2001, I was 23 years old. Now seven years later, I'm thirtysomething and can say that I'm still in love with the movie (and ...( read more)the entire trilogy). Once a year we have a LOTR marathon where we eat good food and just enjoy the magic!

Peter Jackson's opus has it all. For starters, it had Jackson's love for the Tolkien books. He made a beautiful adaptation of the legendary adventures and gave us something that will be remembered as the best trilogy in the history of cinema. He actually had to fight to get it to the big screens. Some studios dared not to take the risk, but thanks to New Line Cinema, the movie goers have experienced true movie magic.

The actors were cast perfectly. We have Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, Ian McKellen as Gandalf and many more memorable characters and talented actors. May the actor be less known or award-winning, all of them do astonishing performances to give life to their characters.

The story grabs you from the start. Jackson has paced the movie perfectly, giving a lot of time for character development. The story itself need not to be explained but all of the elements for a great experience are here. Excitement, laughter, sorrow.

The way the filmmakers have made the world of Middle Earth is something truly astounding. A lot of detail can be found in almost every scene. The wonderful cinematography captures it all.

The beautiful music by Howard Shore supports the film beautifully. There aren't many soundtracks that I've bought but these are one of 'em.

"Fellowship of the Ring" started it all. Never a dull moment, just pure entertainment. The only thing that was hard to take was the long wait for the sequel. After one year, the story continued with "The Two Towers"...

Peter Jackson and & Co's first outing of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy is a remarkable outing indeed. The most linear of the three films, Fellowship is also the most accessible to an audience. The entire ensemble is superb. Not a single wrong note, which is in part thanks to t...( read more)he editing of John Gilbert. My only beef with the film is its pace. The Extended Cut of the film, while not the perfect version of the film, did remedy some of that, but did flesh out entirely too much. Some scenes move by entirely too quickly without stopping to rest or giving the story time to stretch. However, the editing is phenomenal and is worthy of praise. And the score, Howard Shore's masterpiece work, is incredible. Moving, melodic and full of Tolkien. And I cannot go by without mentioning the beautiful work by cinematographer Andrew Lesnie. The color palette of the film is so richly detailed and beautiful. It has to be one of the most beautiful looking films ever made. On the whole, an enchanting and wonderful beginning to an incredible series of films, or if you prefer, film.

This was the first Peter Jackson film I ever saw. My friends have told me that his previous films were terrible, but that's so hard to believe because this was so beautiful. This is probably one of the best fantasy film you'll ever see. Harry Potter has been dethroned by this mag...( read more)ical masterpiece.

Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) is a hobbit who lives in The Shire with his elderly cousin Bilbo (Ian Holm). On the day of Bilbo's birthday, a wizard named Gandalf (Ian Mckellen) comes to The Shire to visit Bilbo. The old hobbit's birthday party is held at night, and when Bilbo gives his birthday speech, he suddenly vanishes. Gandalf suspects him finds out that Bilbo had The Ring of Power which was a tool that the dark lord Sauron was using to rule Middle Earth before he was killed on the battlefield. Bilbo leaves The Shire, and Frodo inherits the ring. But Sauron's spirit is very much still alive, and he wants the ring in his grasp again. The Ring also wants to return to it's master. Frodo is in great peril as the dark lord has sent his Black Riders to retrieve the Ring. In order to destroy the ring and rid the world of Sauron, Frodo creates the Fellowship of the Ring - a group of adventurers who will journey to Mount Doom to destroy the Ring. This is based on a novel. It's a fantastic fantasy story with an amazing adventure. The dialogue is fabulous, and all these characters are so likeable - mostly because of their cool characteristics.

They've done a really good job with the battles in this. All of the battles in this movie look fantastic. The CGI is magnificent, the special effects are very impressive. The creature design of some of the monsters in this is very artistic and very creatively made. The actors have done a really good job here because a lot of them learnt how to fight with weapons - the fighting was incredible.

The locations were breathtaking. All these places looked beautiful. The way they created The Shire was magical, it looked amazing and it felt so peaceful. Other locations of the film were also very good. This film was shot in New Zealand, so it wasn't unexpected to see some wonderful locations. Peter Jackson has also done a really good job with the visuals. The cinematography is very stunning and the camera angles add in on the the effect.

The score of the film is fantastic. There are so many songs here that are just so epic, and some of them were really catchy and would stay in your head for a long time. The y use the music at the right times, usually to convey emotions such as sadness or joy.

One of the best book adaptations to date. Everything about it is good. The special effects are awesome, and the fight scenes are very fun to watch. Overall, this is a masterpiece. Cinematic genius!

"One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them, One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

    Breathtaking. Captivating. Inspiring.

I can not fault Peter Jackson's direction, he quickly became one of my favourite directors after I witnessed this masterpiece. Not only was every scene awe-inspiring and beautiful the cast was frankly amazing. Although, I do have to say one of the best additions to the cast is Ian McKellen; his portrayal of Gandalf was simply brilliant. He makes the character seem so alive and...genius.

I'm not sure what it is about this film but I was captivated from begining to end.

Amazing! Peter Jackson did a tremendous job at adapting the greatest book series of all time into the greatest film series of all time. Blows Harry Potter out of the water in so many ways. I hope he will direct the Hobbit, couldn't imagine anyone else.
