Elliott Gould, Christopher Plummer, Susannah York

This is an imaginative plot, yet one with which the viewer can readily identify. A bank teller (Elliot Gould) is held up at gun point in his bank. Luckily for him he receives a clue that this is going...( read more  read more... ) to occur and diverts most of the cash into his own safety deposit box, leaving only a nominal amount for the crook (Christopher Plummer). The ruse works well, but for the fact that the crook resents the fact that he has been outsmarted. There ensues a terrific battle of wits involving the clever but basically "moral" teller, and the cunning and totally uninhibited bank robber, which involves several other people in ways which cannot be revealed here.

A good little Canadian thriller with some interesting credits: the script was written by Curtis Hanson, who would go on to direct "L.A. Confidential" and "Wonder Boys", jazz pianist Oscar Peterson wrote the music and John Candy makes an early screen appearance. The idea behind th...( read more)e film is truly ingenious: Elliott Gould's bank teller pre-empts a robbery, stashes a vast amount of money away for himself and then credits the escaping robber, Christopher Plummer, with taking it all. The first half of the movie is brilliant, as Gould and Plummer, a psychopath determined to get the rest of 'his' money, repeatedly turn the tables on one another, but the last hour is a bit silly and the plotting becomes less sure-footed. Also, the film cannot decide how light or dark it should be, resulting in several jarring shifts of tone, and it contains some pretty nasty misogynistic violence. Gould is okay but has been more charming elsewhere, Susannah York is sweet and appealing but completely wasted, but Plummer has a great time as the villain.

A surprisingly good movie about a bank teller who becomes part of a bank robbery without the bank robbers knowledge. There was a few things that didn't make sense but overall it kept me wanting to see more.

Sooo bad it's good! Reminiscent of Ocean's 11 only because of the shady bank robbery plot and Elliot Gould's presence, but waaaaay cheesier and oh so 70s! The best part is easily the casting of the Eaton Centre as the backdrop for the whole movie, the very mall I've shopped in my...( read more) whole life.

Saw this at triple-bill midnight show to celebrate the day before Canada Day!

This was the best of the three. It's a slightly mixed up film but it's both intentionally funny and then unintenionally funny without runing it! All cast members bring in a strong enough performance ...( read more)that the villain can dress as santa as the begining to rob a bank then again later in drag and still be a good satisfying villain. How many movies can do that without being lumped into so good it's bad territory?

A quick warning. This one has a bit of random violence that seems to come out of nowhere at times and could be disheartening but compared to the other really awful exploitation films I saw, this one feels as threatning as let's say...The Red Balloon.
