"Tranformers" delivers great popcorn entertainment & spectacular visual effects by ILM with a great story and a wonderful cast behind it all.

Not being an expert on the history of this story franchise, I wasn't sure what I might be in for. Turns out -- I think -- that you don't have to know the whole Transformer story to follow this. Have to admit, the actual transformations, while pretty amazing, were also pretty di...( read more)fficult to follow. Best just to admire first the common object (car, cell phone, or what have you) and then, voila, the end product. If you try to follow the various transformation processes, you will get dizzy.

I liked the humor in this one, and LeBouef managed not to irritate me -- a first. Fox, however, did irritate me. She has an irritating face, and an irritating voice, and her "acting" didn't do anything to alleviate that double-whammy irritation. It's always good to see Turturro. I'm actually looking forward to the second one.

I loved the Transformers cartoons as a kid. They are robots in disguise. Shia buys his first car only to find out it is an autobot. The autobots have to defeat Megatron and protect the human race. I love the house scene where the autobots are trying to hide outside in the garden....( read more) Great action and special effects.

The acting was terrible, the story was crap and if I had a pound for every cliché shat out of this waste of time movie I'd be a very rich man. This is the same old trash, different summer. Great Visual Effects though, just let down by everything else!

This movie is ACTION. I say this first because if you think this movie will be anything more than this, you will be disappointed on some level (as I was). Frame for frame this movie screams Michael Bay.

Now that's out of the way, there's a lot of stuff here that works and a lo...( read more)t that doesn't. It's a good thing that the robots do work. Seeing autobots and decepticons in glorious photo-realistic CGI is enough to wring out any childhood fantasy from anybody (not just boys from the 80s). Watching these robots move is to realize a revelation to what is possible with modern movie effects. Whether it's transforming on the move, bashing the living daylights out of each other, or just standing and talking, these guys alone make the movie work. And unlike the other blockbusters that have came out this year, these effects have a sense of weight that adds so much to the visual satisfaction.

As for everything else, well... that's when things start to go downhill. In typical epic fashion, this movie contains a sprawling cast. Along with this however, are a large number of writing and acting issues. With such a large number of underdeveloped characters, names are pretty much luxury. Also, most of the human related humor gags miss badly, which makes it hurt more considering a lot of the characters were unnecessary. Jon Voight's Secretary of Defense character completely baffles me, which makes me think that audiences responded positively to the President in Independence Day doing aerial dogfights. Any positives from the supporting cast (including the strange yet entertaining overacting of John Turturro) are outweighed by the large set of negatives.

However, the cast has got it where it counts. Shia Lebeouf plays an important part in selling the reality of the robots as the lead character Sam, and also carries an easy likability factor. Megan Fox's acting does a reasonable job bringing some interest to her character to beyond her looks. The voice cast also does an overall superb job. Peter Cullen IS Prime, and although his dialogue does border on the ridiculous, he always has a sense of gravity to his lines. Hugo Weaving also does an equally commendable job as Megatron (His booming entrance will forever be embedded into the minds of little kids everywhere). The rest of the transformers don't say much, which is a shame because I wanted to see so much more interplay between them (The taunts that Optimus and Megatron yell as their fighting is great stuff).

Another major gripe I have is Bay's ADD editing. Although it does keep the movie constantly moving, it creates some issues with continuity and distracts from some of the action (probably the biggest crime committed in the movie).

I could go on and on about the good things (Bumblebee, Frenzy) and the bad things (Anthony Anderson and his family, forgotten Barricade) and the downright weird things (Dubya's cameo, Sam's friend climbing in a tree). Overall, the film delivers where it really matters. Although I was disappointed, the amount of potential for the sequel (which just got greenlighted) just gets me giddy (is it too much to ask for a tighter script and better acting?)

(Also, the Autobot Assemble scene is one of the coolest things I've seen in theaters in years.)

God created man, and man created the Transformers, the Transformers are like a gift from God,

It wasn't what I though it'd be.... I was a little let down. It wasn't bad... but wasn't really that good...

You cannot beat, heart-racing, full force action. And of course Michael Bay's beautiful use of the 'magic hour' light.

It's the toys 'r us in this awesome sci-fi blockbuster. It's bound to produce several inferior sequels but the pure joy of discovery from this kick-ass original is not-to-be-missed. full review

In this tricked-out retake on the much-loved contraptions, director Michael Bay brings his usual chest-thumping, combustive bombast, but he also brings some clever pacing and a genuinely snappy wit. I... full review

Taken for what it is, a crowd-rousing summer blockbuster inspired by a children's mechanical toy, Michael Bay's Transformers is some kind of mess...terpiece. full review

It's goofy fun with a lot of stuff that blows up real good, and it has the grace not only to realize how preposterous it is, but to make that into an asset. full review

Though it's at least 20 minutes too long and uneven dramatically, the acting is sharp, and it features some of the most spectacular action and effects sequences of any movie of its kind. full review

Bay's movie is the grandest proof so far that, when it comes to movie characterization, flesh and blood have had their chance. From here on, it's up to metal and plastic. full review

The only reason I gave this movie a 2 was because of the way the cg works on screen. The Transformers themselves are so cool and when they transform you see every bit of it. As for the movie I wish they would stop making what should be kids movies into something that requires a parent to cover their eyes. I really think Megan Fox is a sellout and she should take her dirty act to where it is more appropriate. The movie at times seemed to be more focused on whether or not we thought she was hot than actually making a good storyline. I also thought I could take my son to this and have him experience something similar to the cartoon I watched as a kid. You failed miserably in this department.

Now for the people that say this is PG 13 ...

    it shouldn't have been ...

    that is the point ...

the movie should be geared to kids who are actually interested in the toys and more and not to Megan Fox fans who hope to get a glimpse of her beaver

One of few movies that will urge one to view it over...and over...and over again. The storyline embellish possible documentary into sci-fi without loosing any shde of reality. If I were 13 I would join the fanclub to get more perks. Wonderful effects propelled by an excellent storyline as well as a great comming of age experience, A positive message to youth as well as parents. At least 3 thumbs (!!!) up!

I just can't wait till the next part comes out! It'll be funny if my sister, my friends and I are the only girls that didn't get dragged there by their boyfriends again. We were the only ones last time. It was quite funny. ^^

This could have been a better movie, but for some reason, Hollywood thinks that they have to 'dumb down' their movies for the kids; this pisses me off, it insults my intelligence. They need to bring the kids up to adult levels and thus making them smarter and making a better human being.
The effects were great, but the stupid little robot just pissed me off. Aren't they supposed to be a higher intelligence?

    Take care all,
    William
