Not a bad adaptation of the comic and a good introduction to the franchise.

A lot of fun but appropriately dark and cerebral, this film works because it has a great cast and a director who finds an almost perfect tone to make the most of the source material. Still, the sequel shows what this film needed to be great.

The first is always gonna have a hard time and this is not a good start. The whole thing is so silly and cheesey its a wonder they made two more, the actors are good and make it work to a degree but the plot is so basic, the second comes alive much better.

I love this movie because of the conflict between the mutants, not so much the public scrutiny the other films include.

Critic Reviews
All these characters with their odd powers are inherently absurd and they throw a barrel of wrenches into the machinery of a coherent narrative. full review
It sucks that this choppily edited film appears rushed and incoherent in ways that cheat the story of its human resonance and the stunts of their anticipated pow. full review
The events that end the movie are sort of anticlimactic, and the special effects, while energetic, are not as persuasive as they might be. full review
